What stands out
This table uses a release-relative clock: preorder, release week, and later windows all start at each product’s own launch.
- Release-week price vs preorder ranged from -6.9% (MSH Marvel Super Heroes) to -1.9% (HOB The Hobbit) across 2 products, a 5.0-point spread.
- Release-week units ran 1.16× (MSH Marvel Super Heroes) to 1.45× (HOB The Hobbit) the preorder daily rate, a 1.26× ratio between the highest and lowest.
- MSH Marvel Super Heroes days 37–96 price was +5.1% vs release week.
Table prices are quantity-weighted trimmed means (10% each end) over each whole window; units/day is the window’s units divided by its days. The chart uses 7-day centered windows. — means no data: the window starts before the product’s first recorded sale, or the sample is too small. * Window still in progress, clipped at the last completed data day. TCGPlayer only. Pre-release sales are preorders. Listing supply appears in Calendar supply.
About release comparison
What is this page comparing?
Release-relative sales and calendar-time listing supply for sealed booster displays. Release-relative charts align every product to its own launch; calendar supply uses actual TCGPlayer snapshot dates.
How is release-relative price calculated?
The chart uses a 7-day quantity-weighted trimmed mean centered on each day, so a release-day spike stays on day 0; at the most recent day the window looks back instead. Each sold unit is one observation; the cheapest and most expensive 10% are dropped before averaging. This is separate from the 14-day headline market price.
How do I read the summary table?
Each column covers a whole window: preorder is the 30 days before release, release week is days 0–6, then days 7–36 and days 37–96. Prices are trimmed means over the window; volume vs preorder divides release-week units/day by preorder units/day. A dash means no data: the window starts before the product’s first recorded sale, or the sample is too small. An asterisk marks a window still in progress.
Why do some lines start before release?
TCGPlayer preorders. A line begins at the first recorded sale, not the first listing. Our TCGPlayer sales history starts in May 2025, and products join tracking at different times, so for older releases the first recorded sale can be after launch.
How does Calendar supply work?
It plots actual dates from TCGPlayer close-of-day snapshots: visible units in the upper panel and median ask in the lower panel. Snapshot coverage begins April 16, 2026, so older releases have no pre-release supply.
Why do tooltip dates differ?
Release-relative aligns each product to its own launch. The same day offset therefore maps to a different calendar date; every tooltip row shows that product’s actual date.
Why is there no pre-release supply for older sets?
Daily listing snapshots begin in April 2026. Sets released earlier have sales history around launch but supply history only from that point onward.
Why are Draft boosters missing?
Play Boosters replaced Draft Boosters in 2024, and our TCGPlayer sales history starts in May 2025, so no Draft display has release-window sales to compare.
Does this predict future prices?
No. It is a descriptive history of recorded TCGPlayer sales and listings, not a forecast or recommendation.
