Weekly Report (Aug 3–9, 2026)

Weekly Market Pulse

TCGPlayer did $1,295,084.41 across 7,505 units and 6,155 orders over 82 products, and both revenue and units moved 0.11% from last week. Underneath the flat line the mix shifted hard. The Hobbit’s take grew again, $830,872 and 3,720 units, 64.2% of the cohort, while everything else did $464,212, less than last week. TCGPlayer is only letting brick-and-mortar stores list the set until release day on August 14, so the whole preorder book is priced by stores.

Prerelease ran the 7th through the 9th and volume tracked it: 1,120 units at the start of the week, 1,267 on the 7th with $240,203 in revenue, the top day on both counts, and 1,262 into the weekend. The Prerelease Pack went 217 -> 773 units. The Collector Booster Display, whose dip I read last week as sellers meeting the hype, came back $795.38 -> $853.50 (+7.31%) on 501 units and $427,605 with sellers up 42.90%, still clearing 3.6 times its shelf. Manapool did $103,924.13 across 484 units and 361 orders over 27 products, 83.8% of it Hobbit.

The Hobbit Gift Bundle tops TCGPlayer gainers on the thinnest shelf in the set: 29.7 average listings after a 48.76% drop, held by about seven sellers, down from 11.6. A pool that small will print a 17.43% move on ordinary prerelease demand, so I’d treat the size of the gain as a symptom of the shelf, and I’d expect release day to refill it.

On Manapool, Marvel Super Heroes Collector Booster Display (Manapool) rose $427.32 -> $463.32 (+8.42%) on 6 units, The Hobbit Collector Booster Display (Manapool) rose $729.82 -> $788.23 (+8.00%) on 63 units at a 1.2672 sell-through with listings up 89.13%, The Hobbit Play Booster Display (Manapool) rose $170.32 -> $182.33 (+7.06%) on 134 units at a 2.8253 sell-through while its supply drained 61.12%, Edge of Eternities Play Booster Display (Manapool) rose $150.14 -> $158.25 (+5.40%) on 25 units, and Duskmourn House of Horror Play Booster Display (Manapool) rose $156.47 -> $164.45 (+5.10%) on 3 units. The two Hobbit displays split on supply there, one building and one draining into release. On the supply side, The Hobbit Collector Booster Pack (Manapool) shed 28.14% of its listings while The Hobbit Bundle (Manapool) added 62.50%.

Last week this box pulled a big seller jump and its price held; this week the crowd kept growing, 18.7 -> 27.8 stores (+49.17%), and the price finally gave way, a price war on the one Hobbit SKU with a visible $41.99 MSRP and the thinnest margin.

Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Booster Display logged a third straight weekly decline with supply more than doubling, avg qty 257.4 -> 573.0 (+122.58%), and sellers up 27.54%. The second restock wave is still flushing through this SKU and the price keeps grinding down under it.

On Manapool, FINAL FANTASY Play Booster Pack (Manapool) fell $7.39 -> $6.67 (-9.74%) on 21 units, The Hobbit Scene Box Treasures of Smaug (Manapool) fell $81.86 -> $75.17 (-8.18%) on 21 units at a 1.3364 sell-through, echoing its TCGPlayer selloff, Marvel Super Heroes Play Booster Display (Manapool) fell $124.85 -> $115.57 (-7.43%) on 7 units, Marvel Super Heroes Commander Deck Doom Prevails (Manapool) fell $79.37 -> $73.99 (-6.78%) on 3 units, and Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Booster Display (Manapool) fell $144.24 -> $134.61 (-6.68%) on 3 units. Nothing on this list moved more than 21 units, so none of it carries size.

Supply / Velocity Read-Through

Eight Hobbit SKUs turned over between 1.6 and 5.1 times their inventory this week while the store shelves behind them halved in places.

Marvel’s restock kept landing on the standard tiers: Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Booster Display more than doubled its shelf and Marvel Super Heroes Play Booster Display added 12.84% to what was already the deepest pile on the board, while the Marvel Super Heroes Scene Box Case came in 25.26%. The premium tier did the opposite again: Marvel Collectors Edition Booster Display drained another 19.43%, 251.2 -> 202.4, selling 111 units at $434.82 (-2.77%) on a 0.5485 sell-through. Third week of the two tiers moving in opposite directions.

The drain watch resolved, mostly against the pattern. Duskmourn House of Horror Play Booster Display reversed, supply 45.9 -> 58.5 (+27.60%). Magic The Gathering Foundations Play Booster Display came back 21.10%, 111.0 -> 134.4, and Tarkir Dragonstorm Play Booster Display ticked back 9.35%. Star Trek Play Booster Display, also on that list, went flat on supply while its seller pool grew 29.06%, with Star Trek Collector Booster Display sellers up 25.13% beside it; that looks like preorder positioning ahead of November 13. The Lord of the Rings Tales of Middle earth Commander Deck Food and Fellowship, another shelf that had been shrinking, rebuilt 34.70% with its price up 3.69%. My read is profit-taking: sellers who bought the drained boxes cheap are unloading into the higher prices the drain created. The exception is Edge of Eternities Commander Decks Set of 2, still going, avg qty 151.0 -> 93.4 (-38.15%) with price up 5.91% at a 0.4710 sell-through.

Elsewhere: Lorwyn Eclipsed Collector Booster Display built 28.95%, 113.0 -> 145.7, with its price up 4.56%. Secrets of Strixhaven Commander Deck Prismari Artistry kept shrinking, 149.4 -> 96.8 (-35.19%), with units dropping 109 -> 36, and Secret of Strixhaven Collector Booster Pack came in 26.13%, 288.9 -> 213.4, the April release still draining.

Tightest inventory on TCGPlayer is all Hobbit: The Hobbit Play Booster Display (sell-through 5.0587 at avg qty 243.7, down 30.00%), The Hobbit Gift Bundle (3.8728 at 29.7, down 48.76%), The Hobbit Collector Booster Display (3.6074 at 138.9, down 17.66%), The Hobbit Draft Night (3.2919 at 43.4, down 62.01%), The Hobbit Bundle (2.7549 at 100.5, down 43.60%), The Hobbit Prerelease Pack (2.3283 at 332.0, down 18.95%), The Hobbit Collector Booster Pack (1.8143 at 138.9, down 3.86%), and The Hobbit Scene Box Treasures of Smaug (1.5837 at 141.4). Outside the set, Tarkir Dragonstorm Commander Deck Temur Roar leads at a 0.9016 sell-through on 54.3 listings, with The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander Deck Veloci Ramp Tor at 0.7841 on 38.3.

Heaviest inventory is Marvel again: Marvel Super Heroes Play Booster Display (avg qty 910.8, up 12.84%, sell-through 0.1976) holds the biggest pile in the dataset, with Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Booster Display (573.0, up 122.58%), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Play Booster Display (501.9), Marvels Spider Man Play Booster Display (494.5), and Avatar The Last Airbender Play Booster Display (485.6) behind it.

Coverage ran 100.0% across 493 located sellers, and the map changed hands. California took the top spot at 10.4% of located supply (10,240 units), the first time in this data window Washington hasn’t led; Washington fell to 8.6% (8,431 units) as Seattle came down from 10,978 to 5,222 units. Florida followed at 6.4% (6,283), Idaho 6.2% (6,103), New York 6.0% (5,878), Texas 5.8% (5,743), Arizona 4.5% (4,408), and Ohio 4.4% (4,378). After Seattle, the busiest cities were Quebec at 2,985 units, Bayamon, Puerto Rico at 2,905, Tucson at 2,826, Kindred, North Dakota at 2,806, and Miami at 2,702.

Opinionated Takeaways

Every Hobbit Price Here Is Provisional

The demand under this set looks real to me. The prices are another matter: a pool this restricted can clear at levels a full market won’t defend, and the full market is days away. If you’re buying, wait for it.

The Scene Boxes Are The Competition Gauge

Both scene boxes fell double digits while everything around them gained, and both kept selling through the drop. They’re the easiest SKU in the set to undercut, so when the seller pool opens up, they’ll show the crowding first. I’d watch these two before any booster box.

The Drain Didn’t Confirm

I asked for a third week and the list handed back a bounce, a flip, and one holdout instead. That’s a coincidence coming apart, and I’m downgrading it from market signal to single-product watch.

Marvel’s Second Wave Is Still Running

If you’re holding standard-tier Marvel, this week added supply again, and nothing here argues the flush is finished; the Collectors Edition question stays open until its own shipment shows up.

What To Watch Next Week

1

The Hobbit through release week. The price I most want tested on the 14th is the Collector Booster Display at $853.50, where a third of the set’s revenue sits.

2

Edge of Eternities Commander Decks Set of 2. The one drain that didn’t bounce, down another 38.15% of shelf with the price climbing. If it keeps draining now that its cohort has reversed, it earns its own writeup as a product signal.

3

The Star Trek preorder book. Last week its play booster looked like part of the drain; this week it flipped to seller growth. The question is whether the book keeps building into spoiler season or flattens here.

Calculation Notes & Disclaimers

  • Metrics are based on MTGsold internal sales/listing snapshots for the report window only.
  • avg qty = average of daily inventory (most complete scrape per day, by seller coverage), not a sum of all intraday listings.
  • sell-through = units sold this week / avg qty this week; values above 1 indicate inventory turned over multiple times.
  • Percentage changes are week-over-week versus the prior-week baseline; very small baselines can exaggerate % moves.
  • Listings are marketplace snapshots and may include relists, temporary removals, and scrape gaps, so flagged low-confidence moves should be treated cautiously.
  • Marketplace sections are segmented to avoid cross-stream blending of metrics.
